So I just found out that the Jeep Compass is still available for sale. The platform has been on the road for over 10 years now. It’s a terrible car, and it got me thinking, “what other old platforms are still in dealer showrooms?”

The Dodge Charger is still on the LX platform, which is ten years old.

I’m sure GM has something they’re keeping around.

Can we count the Nissan VQ engine? Because I think its turning 50 this year. EDIT: holy crap, its legit 23 years old!

Isn’t the 3rd gen Tacoma frame still the same as the 2nd gen?

Depends if we’re just talking in NA or if we’re counting South America and Asia as well.
I think everything that’s currently sold in NA has moved along.

yes and no. They are closely related but not interchangeable.

I completely forgot of those weird platform mashups they do.

Ah, okay, I’m still learning, I just saw that some stuff that bolts to the frame, like front toe hitches and bumpers, carried over from 2nd gen to the 2016s so I figured they must be nearly identical.

Aren’t the current Toyotas Corolla and Camry based on old platforms?

They are pretty close, no question. People like to complain about that but...honestly...its more a pro than con. As you mentioned...the aftermarket is pretty much ready for the new Taco and that keeps it ahead of the Canyorado with only a so/so aftermarket.

If you go to places like China and Malaysia you can buy trucks that are like an update of an update of an update of a truck from the 80's.

If we allow non-US, then the UAZ-452 family, probably. Same platform almost unaltered in any way since ‘65.
If we count continuance in the form of the Mahindra MM450 and Thar, the CJ5 has been an active platform since ‘54.

Is there a Lada or some other Eastern European car still in production?

Yeah, I think it’s more of a pro for sure. People complain they are too similar but they couldn’t be more wrong. I drove a 2014 with 30k miles on the clock back to back with the 2016. Practically equipped the same (DCLB V6 tow package). The 2016 was much better, and so it came home with me.

If you had’ve asked this two months ago, the answer would be the GM W-Body. It was in production from 1988 until May 2016, making it 28 years old.

Other than occasionally plopping new electronic goodies and engines in and revising the suspension, I don’t think this has really changed since its inception in the 70s.

Isn’t the current Yaris still based on the Yaris redesign from 2005?

The Morgan 4/4 obviously wins, dating to 1936 and all (with a gap between ‘51 and ‘55, plus the war). There’s also their Plus 8, which dates to 1968.
In Russia, you’ve got the early ‘70s vintage UAZ 469/Hunter and the late ‘70s Lada Niva.
In China, Yema Auto still bases pretty much their entire lineup on the 1983 Austin Maestro platform.
As far as what we can get in the US, I believe the D40 Nissan Frontier is still in production, at least for a little while longer. That bowed in 2004 as a 2005 model, and will probably carry on overseas after its replaced here.

Lada Niva, if you’re gonna do that.(Even though the previously mentioned Morgan +4, or something Caterham, would beat it.) Entered production in 1977, still in production today.
